STEVEN UNIVERSE S3:E11-REVIEW

I hate this episode.
Not even joking, this may in fact be the worst episode I've seen of the show to date, I do not give any kind of a shit, this episode is just awful. Fine, this is not an important episode, but it's useless, tackles subjects done better elsewhere and just lacks any kind of entertainment. It doesn't have to be funny, it doesn't have to be emotional, but I should feel something besides boredom. I sat through this wondering what the point even was, sure the characters seem to be dealing with their own trauma, but why? This was perhaps the only time said trauma was brought up since season one, and even then it didn't seem to be a big issue.

So to explain, this episode deals with the return of Kevin, a douchey character I kinda forgot about from Stevonnie's first appearance, he's still a cocky douchebag. Steven admits he has a strong hatred, likely because Kevin is the show's worst character, a one dimensional, annoying "villain" type that didn't need to comeback to remind us he was a thing. After little thought, Steven and Connie fuse to race against Kevin, a guy who doesn't even seem well liked by the audience watching them race, making you wonder why anyone even bothers hanging around the narcissistic stereotype.

The general idea here seems to be that Kevin is a creep (no need to elaborate), his last appearance made Steven and Connie uncomfortable (possible rape/sexual harassment metaphor) and now they're trying to beat him to make a point. This being Steven Universe though, means it's handled in a more peaceful way, even though the easiest solution would be to just knock him out. Look, the world needs to teach people it's wrong to harass others, don't force someone into any kind of relationship just because you can't keep it in your pants, but this episode is just a bore, it's one dimensional and shallow. With Kevin as the antagonist, there was really no other way to go, this episode feels like a weaker version of previous episodes, mainly the episodes that acknowledge the abuse of fusion.

Bottom line, I've never seen an episode that I loathe this much from the show, this is the absolute worst and I hope nothing else gets this bad. I now feel like apologizing to previous episodes I've disliked from the show.
